What it is
One place that collects the items buried in customs auction notices and shows what each costs today and at every round still to come.
Why I built it
Notices arrive only as HWP and PDF attachments, so finding out what is for sale and at what price meant opening files one by one.
The problem
A customs auction drops 10% of the opening bid each round, but the schedule and the floor price sit inside the attachments. That is why the information itself is sold as a paid course.
Approach
A timer on a Seoul-region server pulls notices twice a day and normalizes them into item-level records. The floor price is computed from the tariff rules and checked against the notices' own final prices: 399 of 402 agreed.
What I built
- 1,342 items normalized from 62 notices, with the six-round schedule recovered for 40 of 45 auction notices
- The floor rule, max(50% of the opening bid, total duties), implemented in both the pipeline and a SQL view; tax-heavy liquor stops nearer 60%
- Lifecycle views filter out finished notices. Most of what is loaded is a closed record, and without the filter the screen shows last year's auction as a current price
- Customs drops overseas connections often, so the schedule moved off GitHub Actions to a systemd timer on a Seoul-region VPS. Two of three runs from a US runner were refused on the first request
- Only scanned notices go to OCR, and a read schedule is adopted only after shape checks for reversed dates and non-consecutive rounds
- Bidding on someone's behalf and holding deposits are not legal here, so both are designed out. Paths that robots.txt disallows are never crawled
